Editing 2 for Commercial Project
Today, my group and I primarily polished our commercial to ready it for submission. Once I had picked out the integrated soundtrack and my partner had organized all the clips, we worked together to try and sync transitions to be as close to the music as possible. About halfway through this process, we decided to try and reorganize the layout of our video to make it flow better, and to work better with the music. Eventually we decided to only switch the position of one short clip, so two related shots could transition into each other. Once this had been done, our transitions were much easier to complete, and we moved on to the next step. We decided on primarily using a simple dissolve transition, rather than any flashy, over-the-top transitions which were offered to us. After I finalized my audio choice, and we had trimmed the length of various clips to match the music as best we could, I moved on to adjusting the volume as my partner began looking at sound effects. In the end, the background noise from the actual video itself proved to be far more intrusive than either of us expected, so I simply muted the raw film and left just the soundtrack in. With this issue addressed, I helped my partner look at the various sound effects which iMovie offered, to see if there was anything among them that either of us liked and would have fit well within the video. After some reviewing, we decided not to use any of the sound effects available to us, since we felt they weren't really appropriate with the overall theme of the commercial. We then experimented with the different video filters offered, such as a mono, vibrant, and comic filter, to see if any of them made our video particularly extraordinary. I rejected most of the ones we looked at, since I felt that we'd captured the perfect color palette in the original recording. Finally, I looked over the clips we had and chose several which we could cut some time off of, to hit the guidelines of 30 seconds, and my partner did the cutting itself.
