Our Pitch
"Following a series of attacks in their hometown, a group of teens discovers all is not as it seems in the local forest."
This was our first consideration for our pitches. We all agreed that we wanted to find something relatively easy to do since we are limited to the budget and small skill levels that we have among us. The benefits of this type of film is that it sets up the setting being in a forest, and we could film in a wooded area around us. It also doesn't require any serious purchases for costuming or mis-en-scene, since it also establishes that it's a group of ordinary people involved, meaning that any casual public clothes would suffice. However, it is the type of film that we were warned was becoming overused, so we may want to look further for a better type of film with more unique potential.
"A group of researchers gathers information on an anomaly in their world and its behaviors and properties."
This was the next proposition, and a good one at that. It would take some mild cunning to pull off and look authentic, but setting up a scene to resemble a laboratory or research site with scientific equipment sounded relatively easy. It also wouldn't require a huge amount of extraneous effort to acquire mis-en-scene, other than some background props and more appropriate attire for the part of playing scientists. There is also the benefit of talent- it would be easier to create a script or plot since one of our group members writes as a hobby. The only downside is the slightly increased difficulty in acquiring mis-en-scene relative to the first pitch.
Ultimately, our group decided on using the second pitch, about the researchers, since we all agreed that our discussions surrounding it were more developed and thus easier to create.
